A young couple from Mexico City discover that an Iowa college campus is an unlikely but idyllic place to save their troubled marriage. Eligio, a philandering actor played by Gael Garcia Bernal (Mozart in the Jungle), follows his wife Susana to a writer’s workshop in the United States. Director Roberto Sneider finds a well of humor in the clash of cultures in this nuanced romantic comedy, while Gael Garcia Bernal is pitch-perfect imbuing Eligio with complexity, devilish charm, and sly charisma. It is easy to see what Susana sees in her wayward spouse. As You’re Killing Me, Susana shines a light on the couple’s habits, it draws us into a mercurial partnership that ping pongs between simmering tension and deep passion. – Mill Valley Film Festival (2016)
